FAQ SHEET

1) Do I have to swap heirloomseeds only?

NO, you are free to swap, barter, or sell any type of seed, plant, cutting, bulb, rhyzome, tuber, spore, etc. You can even trade or sell book, DVD, or any merchandise that you feel is helpful to the gardener. We do ask that you NOT post ads for any GMO (genetically modified) seeds.

2) Are there any seeds or plants I should not share, or sell?

YES - We ask that there be no GMO (genetically modified seeds) in this site and you should not send any seeds to an area or country that are illegal to send. Some countries have a list of plants that they consider a threat to their ecosystem. Do your research and make sure your seeds are not prohibited. Ask the person receiving the seeds also.

3) How do I send seeds?

You can normally send smaller seeds in a regular envelope with regular postage, but larger seeds my require a padded envelope or even a small box. If you are not sure, your local post office will help. You can also print out out Seed Envelope and use them.

4) How do I use the seed envelopes offered here on the site?

Just print out the sheet, or as many sheets as you need. Each sheet makes three envelopes--cut the envelopes out along the solid lines and fold along the dotted lines. Use clear tape to hold the envelope together. You can write any information about the seeds on the envelope, then just put the seeds in the envelope and tape it shut. You can find the
Seed Envelopes HERE.

5) Is there a fee to exchange or sell seeds on this site?

NO - Currently this site is free of charge. It is paid for and run by Johnny MAX & the Queen who host the Self-Sufficient Homestead Podcast for free also. This seed swap site was set up to help people who cannot afford expensive seeds. If you have an abundance of seeds and you want to share them for free, we encourage that. It will also help you in the future if you ever have a crop failure and lose your seeds for a rare heirloom variety. You can contact the person you sent the seeds to and see if they have harvested savedseeds. We are contemplating excepting donation to help fund the site, but no decision has been made. You thought about that are welcomed.
